Pressure Cooker Studios teamed up with Hogarth and Amapiano superstar Chley Nkosi for the new Wanta Fanta TVCs.
The goal? To breathe new life into one of the world’s most iconic brand jingles, this time with a bold, distinctly South African sound.
With her signature vocal flair and magnetic energy, Chley helped reimagine the classic Wanta Fanta hook, creating an infectious new anthem that reflects both the spirit of the brand and the vibrancy of local music culture. We sat down with her to chat about the process, the collaboration, and how this campaign fits into a bigger movement of global brands partnering with African talent.
Can you tell us about your first reaction when you were asked to lend your voice to this ad?
“I was so excited that I’m going to be part of the ad. My first reaction was curiosity about the brand and the project’s vibe… and for Fanta to reach out to me was crazy and I knew I was gonna rock it.”
What was the vision for this commercial?
“Like I said, hearing the previous voice over… to my mind I said definitely the vision was to bring new life into a classic jingle while keeping the brand’s essence intact. It sounds like a fun challenge.”
And what do you think of the final product?
“I always challenge myself with new and creative writing, so I think it turned out awesome! The team did a great job bringing the vision together.”
Your vocals bring such fresh energy to the campaign, how did you approach reinterpreting such a well-known jingle in your own style?
“I wanted to put my own spin on it while still being true to the original. I experimented with different rhythms and tones to create something unique… and like I always do it, I have fun staying creative and natural as always.”
Tell us something surprising about your creative process?
“I’m always learning, but one thing that surprises people is how much I enjoy collaborating with others to spark new ideas… but I always try to challenge myself with writing different ideas and forming them into one solid verse, chorus, or hook.”
Can you walk us through how you recorded your vocals for this ad? Where were you, and how did you make the remote setup work for you?
“I actually recorded the vocals at an agency in Joburg with my team and the recording crew — they had such great hospitality, it made the whole vibe so easy. Everything was done online, and even though we were all in different places, it felt super connected. Some of the team were streaming in from Cape Town alongside one of my managers, while I was laying down vocals with the rest of the crew in Joburg. It was such a cool experience seeing how well everything flowed, even with everyone being remote.”
What excites you most about the future of music and brand collaboration, especially for African artists? “
The possibilities for creative freedom and reaching new audiences excite me. Brands and artists can push boundaries together, creating something fresh and impactful but also giving the artists freedom to create something imaginative.”
