GAMING UPDATE

2024 is an exciting year for us in terms of gaming, from game releases years in the making, to local and international gaming conferences.

We’re wanting to make waves in the gaming industry, so come along for the ride.

We’ve talked about this before, but we’ll say it again –  we’re a studio full of passionate gamers, so we know what gamers want. Music and Audio are critical to a game’s success. They not only shape the player’s emotional and cognitive experience but can elevate the game from simple interaction to an immersive art form that resonates deeply with players.

We’re incredibly proud of our work on the highly-anticipated medieval strategy game Manor Lords. The vision for Manor Lords was to create a world with extreme detail to historical accuracy. We needed to capture the beauty of the game with a cinematic score as well as stay true to its authenticity. You can listen to the full OST here or read what the press had to say about it here.

James Matthes, Pressure Cooker Studios Creative Executive Office, and Elben Schutte, Senior Composer flew to Cologne Germany at the end of August to attend Devcom and Gamescom to meet with fellow gamers and talk about how our studio can bring our 4 years of passion and experience for cinematic storytelling to the gaming world. While there, Elben stood up in front of a crowd at Devcom to talk through his experience on creating this unique soundscape, and all of his learnings along the way.

Elben says: “Devcom was more than I hoped for. And expectations were high. It was an honour to stand in front of people from the industry and share with them. Everyone was warm and welcoming and showed a lot of interest.”

James then went on to Vancouver to attend XDS.

“XDS was such an incredibly well run conference from start to finish, filled with really wonderful people all aligned to the common goal of collaborating to make incredible games for the global community. I had so many mind opening conversations with extremely talented individuals at the top of their game and I learnt a lot. The energy of the people really makes it and I will definitely be back again next year.”  James says.

But the year is not over yet for the gaming world and us! Ben was up at Joburg Games Fest last weekend talking all things Manor Lords.

James and Ben will be talking at Africa Games Week in December, and Pressure Cooker Studios will be shining a spotlight on music and sound in gaming, by hosting a panel discussion at Playtopia in Cape Town over the same week as AGW.

So if you are part of our global gaming community and feel like visiting Cape Town at an incredible time of year be sure to check these events out, we’d love to see you.
