PCS x BFM The Alumni Collection Vol.1

We’ve been keeping this one quiet for a while and are finally ready to share this epic news with you:

Pressure Music Catalogue proudly presents our first full album featuring tracks from Bridges for Music alumni.

This 10-track album from the incredible artists coming out of Bridges For Music Academy in Langa, Cape Town, is available to license on our Pressure Music Catalogue, and forms part of the broader PCS x BFM partnership which aims to connect aspiring talent with the media industry.

Damian Malgas, who heads up the Industry Access Programme at Bridges for Music, spoke to us about what value he feels this album, and future ones, will bring: “Our students gain an understanding of industry standard practices and requirements with regards to their tracks (quality, preparation, etc), they get to work with an industry leading organization, they get the benefit of education for a lucrative aspect of the industry, they expand their creative outlook by learning about composition for film and finally they have a potential to generate income from their music. We are hoping that this album generates revenue for the promising young artists, inspires current and future students to explore composition for film and TV, and educates our students on the business processes in the industry.”

This album, PCS x BFM The Alumni Collection Vol.1, features tracks from the following BFM artists:

  • Rudy Julius
  • Deslynn
  • Sakhe The Conqueror

James Matthes, Pressure Cooker Studios CEO says: “I’m incredibly excited about this opportunity to give the Bridges For Music Alumni the chance to have their music heard and synced in the global media industry. This only strengthens our partnership and the end goal in showing young talented individuals that there is a future for you to make a living and thrive in the music industry.” Cobus Schutte (Composer and Pressure Music Catalogue Mastermind) adds: “It has been an honor to work alongside the incredible creators at BFM, and we’re thrilled for everyone to witness the exceptional talent that the next generation of musicians has to offer.”

We also got to hear some inspiring feedback from two of the artists featured on the album:

“It is a magnificent journey to experience. Being a DJ before being a producer played an important role in shaping & sharpening a new venture in the industry. I can never leave out being part of the talent BFM harbours. It is impactful having relatable role models with years of musical experience who are willing to contribute tirelessly on aspiring talent such as myself. I am forever grateful for the opportunity BFM has created and grateful to those who’ve been part of my journey, I’m looking forward to more growth and mentorship.” – Lwazi Mpongose (DJ Priyme SA)

“It’s incredibly fulfilling to see ‘Ingase Uyazi,’ a track I created at Bridges for Music as a mental health awareness song, take on a life of its own. The initial vision was to spark conversations around mental health through music, and now, watching it evolve into a commercial product with the potential to make an impact in the media industry is deeply rewarding. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration with Duks Pukuza (an alumni of the Academy), passion, and the foundation Bridges for Music provided.” – Qaqamba Ntshinka:

This new album, which is the first of hopefully many more through our partnership with Bridges For Music, fits in perfectly to our carefully created and curated selection of music on our Pressure Music Catalogue and we are very proud to finally share it with you.
