The main creative brief was that the music needed to be horror, but also had to have some quirky elements, as the film is a comedy horror. We needed to make an Original score without using the original theme elements from the first Leprechaun movie.
We started out with a sketch to create the Leprechaun’s theme. Since this is Irish Folklore, we started out with a piccolo flute, bells and harps and developed the horror elements around that. This ended up being a good combination to get a quirky, yet sinister and dark horror sound which elevated the entertainment value of the final film.
